I DON’T EAT ANY PROCESSED MEAT FOR EXACTLY THIS REASON! IT’S HARD TO TELL WHAT WE’VE EATEN DOWN THRU THE YEARS! I WILL ONLY EAT FULLL CUTS OF MEAT, AND IT’S BEST TO BUY AT A STORE THAT SELLS ONLY MEAT! THIS COULD HAVE BEEN STOPPED YEARS AGO IF THE GOVERNMENT HAD DONE ITS JOB! YOU CAN BET IT’S MONETARILY BASED; EVERYTHING IS THESE DAYS. WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, WE HAD 3 GARDENS AND HOGS TO BUTCHER, PLUS CHICKEN. NO PROCESSED FOOD!

  2. On this happy note how has your car nsumption of Shrimp been in the last 4-6 months? Yes, that would be the same Shrimp that our own USDA approved Shrimp food consisting of pig shit fit for human consumption. Cut right back on my shrimp consumption. Does anyone hat count as a serving of pork or a double protein?

  3. Just curious… where exactly does one million pounds of rat meat come from? Are they farm raised rats, or do free-lance hunters go stalking thru sewers collecting their little carcases?… As far as eating one, I don’t think it would be any different than eating a rabbit or a squirrel, etc. Inquiring minds would like to know.

    • You’ve never visited a Rat Ranch, Cheryl ?

what a great question!!! everyone is so shocked at the first statement that we forget to go forth and inquire further..kudos to you whomever you are!

    • Yep. Just like all the Chinese restaurant owners, going out every night with nets catching cats, instead of say calling up the local produce supplier.

i think that is Really Sickening, they Should Put a Stop of any meat coming in the US from the Source, that is just horrible, and that could cause People to get really bad disease’s,just to bad to think of how could anyone let Something like this happen???

  5. Totally Disgusting!!!

Go vegan and you won’t have this problem and you will also help towards saving animals that are being tortured mercilessly !!!!

  7. This is why we need to to be aware of where our foods come from. It’s no wonder that we are a nation of sickness and diseases. Some people, especially Christain people who I know personally, think that all food was cleansed by God. Well, then, they should have no problem eating rats.
I personally believe that God told his people which meats were clean and which eere unclean for a reason. This is still good advice fot us today. Even though some foods are kosher, we need to make sure it is real
food. I dont eat out much…like to prepare my own food, but I purchade food from reliable sources.

  8. Why are we still importing any food source from China? They have shown that they think life is cheap. They sold tainted baby formula and killed a bunch of beloved household pets with their tainted pet food. Wake up and smell the coffee. Just don’t buy it from China.

  9. Cannot help but wonder honestly, about Chinese food which has long been joked about as being cat or rat. Think I’ll venture into making my own from now on, especially since I took a Chinese cooking course 2 years in a row.

  10. I call complete bullshit! Sounds like another Republican conspiracy theory.

  11. evidently you can eat rat meat and live then. because if they stopped THAT MUCH, Im sure a lot has gone befor.

What the hell…makes me want to start going back to the olden days & raise my own meat & vegetables…at least then I’d know what I was eating!!!!!

I won’t eat anything that I know comes from China. We don’t know the conditions US foods are coming from, much less other places. Very little of our food is inspected. Just a few samples are taken. We have to rely on sickness or deaths to point out the tainted food. Not the fault of our inspectors, just not enough of them.

  16. There is plenty of meat here in the USA! Money is involved in this so stop all meat shipments from any foreign country!

It should be mandated that all food sources have the place of origin and distribution point where they were raised/processed/canned put on the labels so the citizens can make a choice. I want to know what I am eating. My butcher gets most of his beef from Texas but sometimes gets it locally and the price is right.. He let’s us know…

  19. Think I’m ready to become a vegan

  20. DO U REALLY KNOW WHAT U EAT WHEN U EAT MEAT ?????UNLESS U RAISE IT YOURSELF ..MY HUSBAND DIED AT THE AGE OF 54 IN THE STATE OF S.C. WITH CJD ,,,HUMAN MAD COW DISEASE ,,,,I KNOW 4 SURE BECAUSE I HAD AN AUTOPSY DONE ,,,MORAL OF THIS STORY ,,,STAY AWAY FROM MEAT !!!!

  21. Meat is MEAT.. chicken or rat, it’s still animals!

How would rat taste like?? It cannot taste like chicken Also it’s from China where they are a lot less picky about what goes into food and when it comes to the U.S.A.. Need I say more??

They might be farm raised, rats produced at an alarming rate. I wouldn’t put it past the Chinese to have caught free range rats also in there. I am sorry but the Asian Market the eat dog, cats, monkeys, and God know what else.

This is very upsetting on the surface!
Why on earth is the US importing any meat from anywhere?

  27. Why not rat farms? There are hundreds of guinea pig farms in S. America where it’s considered a delicacy. It’s considered an honor to be served guinea pig in many S. American countries. Same thing with crickets-different cultures have different customs that are normal to them.

Most people lather their wings with various sauces so how would they know? There”s not a lot of meat on chicken wings, so I tend to wonder when I see really plump boneless wings.

  28. Gonna have me a salad!

I am pretty certain the article is fake news. I have a background in regulatory compliance in the food industry. I have worked closely with the FDA and USDA on various food recalls. If this were true it would immediately hit major news outlets and there would be various government notices and bulletins on it. To date I see none.

If you are concerned check with your local state Department of Agriculture. They have the authority in your state to manage these matters. And they would immediately know what other states and the FDA have found out regarding if any rat food has gotten into the American food chain. Food and food ingredients are pretty traceable from point of origin to point of distribution. And they are pretty diligent about these matters.

  30. I don’t put anything past the U.S. Purchasing anything from anywhere. After all, it has all of us guinea pigs who test all their pharmaceuticals, why not have us test the garbage , as well? I view all foods with skepticism. Veggies used to small but healthful for us, but now they are huge GMO products making you think you’re getting your money’s worth of good eating, when in fact you’re getting a belly full of poison.

  31. I’m glad to hear that this was a false alarm but I still don’t trust Chinese Restaurants. I’d rather make my own Chinese food.
